FAQs

Here are some common Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that have been asked of us.  Please feel free to reach out if your question isn't found here.  Thank you.

  • Is this a full time business?

    • No.  I work full time at a another job. This is only a part time side hobby which proceeds are directed towards:

      • reimbursement of initial investment expenses

      • investment for future projects

      • post manual finishing, fabrication, and assembly labor

      • research and prototyping related expenses

    • Aftershock Products isn't geared for profit.  But, towards the benefit of the community and the creative passion of personalizing the uniqueness of a vehicle.

  • How are you skid plates installed?

    • Both front and rear plates utilize the OEM screw locations (license plate, cladding bumper undermount screw locations).  The side plates do require drilling small holes to install stainless steel nuts and bolts on the underside of the rocker panel cladding.

  • Are the visible screws on the skid plates real or cosmetic?

    • They are cosmetic so you can uninstall the plates without seeing any holes in you cladding.  However, you have the option to replace the cosmetic screws with real nuts and bolts for additional security through the cladding.  If you choose this direction, you will have holes as a result in your cladding if you uninstall your plates.

  • Why are your prices so high?

    • These are NOT 'off the shelf' products.  Rather, they are custom made that are designed, engineered, and fabricated by me alone.  After the initial idea, each part requires reverse engineering, cad design, design iterations, fabrication processes, and prototyping.  All of the initial investment comes from my own pocket and labor time.  If I involve an outside vendor, the prices are usually determined by the costs of the mold, the processing of the part, and any post finish work done by me.  It does take a few number of sales to replenish the initial costs of investment. Most of which get reinvested in future projects.

  • What's included in the order?

    • Included is the order itself, installation instructions, and stainless steel hardware including the cosmetic screws where applicable.

  • Do you keep a stock inventory of parts?

    • If the parts are small, then I can carry a few in stock to ship out right away.  If they are large parts (skid plates, hood inserts, etc.), I don't carry in stock unless they were leftovers from a previous batch order.  I will place another batch order with vendor if I start getting multiple orders within a short time.

  • Why does it take 3-6 weeks to get my order?

    • My vendor takes a week or two to get parts to me pending his manufacturing schedule.  It also takes me a couple of days to get the post finish work completed. I only do this after hours/weekends as I work full time on another job.  And I only work on orders as they are received with no preferential treatment to anyone.  I do keep in constant communication with the customer to give them a status check on their order and an ETA when it get close to shipping.

  • What are your skid plates made of and are they tough enough for real off roading?

    • They are fabricated out of 1/4" ABS plastic that is vacuum-formed at a local manufacturing facility.  Mostly cosmetic as skidplates are made to enhance the look of your VX.  However, they do provide minimal protection to your plastic cladding against brush and light offroad trails.  It is recommended to remove them if you pursue hardcore rock climbing etc.

  • Do you  plan to make the convertible VX (VX-O2) some day?

    • Ideally, if I can find a labor of love VX that I can restore and cut off the top, then yes.  I already have some initial CAD designs that I've been practicing with on a scale model.

  • Are you planning to expand into other vehicles or open to doing so?

    • I've designed products for the Pontiac Solstice briefly to which I still get inquires from owners who want me to come back to designing parts for their community.  I'm always open to options and possibilities of expanding to other vehicles.

  • Do you have any discounts or sales for your products?

    • I currently don't offer any at this time.  However, I do have spontaneous temporary sales/discounts/free shipping (within the US) for products every now and then.  It doesn't hurt to ask for a bulk order discount if ordering more than one item.
